Can anyone tell me

when it became news that C. S. Lewis' work was a Christian allegory?

I cannot believe the fuss in the media...

::shakes head in confusion::

Maybe it is a comment on the times that some things that have been privileged before are no longer. Maybe it is a sign that more diversity is promoted, but somehow I don't think so.

God save me from

strategic planners who do not know an action plan with timelines and deadlines and accountability to SAVE THEIR LIFE!!!!!!

Spent, compressed into 8 hours, the paralysis of going over old ground that we have experienced for 3 fucking years...

Could have finished my book chapter.

::sigh::

I have such a headache. To quote Illyria...

I wish to do more violence.

I am just racking up the air miles this year...

Have finally finished all the preparation for the presentation I have to do in Edmonton this week. And all I want to really do is to curl up with my newest LeGuin novel and be in my PJs all day.

One plus though: traveling and presenting at conferences has gotten me out of 3 meetings!

Woo Hoo...

and if you haven't joined seasonal spuffy... are you missing some great stuff!

and just because I want to post a pic...

Babies! I work with babies!

Babies with PhDs... I have had the most frustrating week as the Chair of a hiring committee and as a member of a committee to redesign the internal decision-making structures. And it has become exceptionally clear to me that I am working with babies! Babies with hidden agendas.

Whinging... demanding...

Actually, I think I would rather be working with 20 babies... they are at least cuter, and sleep sometimes...

Funny... exactly how I am feeling today...

Nicked from estepheia:

My Viking name...

Niðbjörg Bonemangler

(Well, actually, that wouldn't really be your name -- since you're female, your name would be something like "Niðbjörg Björnsdottir". But this is the twenty-first century, and you want to be known for who you are, not for who your father was, right? Right.)

Your Viking Personality: You're a fearsome Viking, but you aren't completely uncivilized. The other Vikings make fun of you for that. You have a thirst for battle, and tend to strike first and think later. You might be able to hold your own on the battlefield, but you're no "berserker".

A long sea voyage aboard a Viking longboat would be difficult for you, but you might be able to manage it. You possess some skills which other Vikings respect.

You have a fairly pragmatic attitude towards life, and tend not to expend effort in areas where it would be wasted. Other people tend to think of you as manipulative and conniving.

So, that's why I am feeling the need to do a bit of plundering... and here I thought I was horny.

Granting a Chani wish

Well, it seems as if I just may be a fairy godmother this summer...

So, Chani, in granting wish number #4, here is what you are getting into... And remember the lesson taught to us by Cordelia, "Be careful what you wish. You just might get it!"

Other news...

Phoenix was lovely, but a very quiet town compared to the hot night life of Montreal. Spent most of the time at the conference [some interested people even came to my Teaching Roundtable, and I gave all of my handouts away... a sign of a successful presentation!!].

But I went to the Heard Museum, a wonderful collection of ancient, traditional, and contemporary First Nations Art. One of the nicest aspects was to see families, with young children, representing various Aboriginal Peoples from the SouthWest, strolling though the museum. The collection of Katchinas, especially the Barry Goldwater collection, was stunning.

And of course... I bought more jewelery... and drank waaay too many Key Lime margaritas....

Well, I have finished preparing the Powerpoint presentation, now

I just have to make sure I have some clean underwear!

I'm off to Phoenix on Wednesday morning to a conference. Anybody know any hot spots or interesting things to do in town?

I don't really have time to go anywhere far since I am supposed to be attending and presenting at a conference, learning about the most cutting edge research [blah... blah... blah...]. But I can't go all that way and not see something of Phoenix. Besides, I dream of the American SouthWest... Kokopelli is a personal totem of mine....

Maybe I will try and buy a Kachina...

Someone asked for lions?

My eldest son took this at the bottom of Ngorogoro crater. The lioness allowed us to stare at her for about 15 minutes before looking us in the eye, standing up, and sauntering off.

Hello, My name is ladyemorgaine and I am addicted to these damn things, otherwise known as LJ quizes, especially when I get results like this...

You scored as Lara Croft. A thrill-seeking, slightly unscrupulous, tough-as-nails archaeologist, Lara Croft travels the world in search of ancient relics perhaps better left hidden. She packs two Colt .45s and has no fear of jumping off buildings, exploring creepy tombs, or taking on evil meglomaniacs bent on world domination.

Goodness, it sounds as if it was written by Yoda....

Why are these things so inviting?

Now for a real Haiku...

Cherry blossoms.
Working in the paddy
We see all their stamens.

This is by Koi Nagata (1900 ~ 1997) whose philosophy was to "continue observing his destiny calmly. Koi also respected the grandeur of the destiny and did not like the attitude to fight against it like that of Shinko Haiku. However he said that we would not know the true nature of the destiny if we did not resist it at least once. Basho played varied comedies making himself a clown. He underlined nonsense of the human activity and tried to show men's weakness and the grandeur of the Destiny."

Yes, bending over and seeing their "stamens" *giggle*
